More Racecar Prep

Rate this Entry
The first race that I'll actually be driving in goes down this weekend. The cars still need a lot of work, but I'll need my rest too as it's been a while since I've been in the heat of a touring car race where guys have no second thoughts about trading paint and getting dirty. Lately it's been all about preparation and steady pace that comes from endurance racing, and while the prep is still required here, the 30 minute races require a little bit more aggression if you want to win. Maybe I should keep the aggression down until a little bit into the season.

We have some AIM MXL dashes going into the cars, I'm building a new exhaust for the one I'm driving that is tucked up higher into the chassis so we can get the car right down on the 3" ride height limit, and they are getting some new differentials. Not to mention the #87 car which is now the car I'm driving requires new axles.

My racecar got some suspension love the last few days to allow for more rear compression travel, the car was bottoming though 2 and 4 at Mosport last year which was making it a little bit scary. Hopefully this and the stiffer spring rates is enough to keep that from happening again.

We completed a gangster fuel system on Freddys R32 GT-R, Aeromotive 1000 pump, pre and post pump filters, 5052 aluminum hard-line to keep the weight down, GReddy fuel rail and an Aeromotive FPR. We made custom -6 in-tank pickup and return lines, as well as 90 degree -6 bulkheads on the factory fuel sending unit lid for a nice baller install. Now if we could just figure out why the ignition keeps breaking up we could actually make some power with the thing.

In other news, we're installing a single turbo onto a 350z that should be ready to go by Tuesday, it got lots of custom SG love as the kit was a total piece of shit, but it should put down a safe 370whp. Anything more and you're liable to pop the non-revup engine.

Did some dyno tuning on a 370z yesterday, it was an automatic but made 283whp which is pretty respectable for a nearly stock car.

We should have Briggs S14 in next week to prep for DMCC Rd.2 as well as the other regular in-out stuff, so it's looking to be a busy week for us here at SG!

More pictures next week guys, I'm sorry!

The cars already had longtube headers. After upsizing the primaries and building a new exhaust, the car gained 7whp. I'm sure if I totally re-did the headers there would be a bit more there, as the primaries are way too long, but there's just no time.
